The Whithorn Trust

The Whithorn Trust is an archaeological charity, with an internationally important collection. We run a visitor centre with guided tours, a small cafe and exhibition. We have a research arm, where staff have worked to create a large digital catalogue of our archaeological collection and we are looking to create an ambitious online database and interactive research platform for all of our artefacts and assemblage of human remains. Our collections manager is a data analyst but would require specialist advice on further moves to create the public facing database. We believe that such a database would not only be of use to researchers but would also interest the public with the fascinating stories we can tell about the mediaeval past. We also run a lively social media presence on Facebook but we would like to go further with creating a regular digital newsletter. We would like to investigate further marketing the Whithorn Way, a long distance walking route from Glasgow to Whithorn, in conjunction with other communities and social enterprises along the route - packaging deals and regularly posting visuals of the route to entice more walkers and cyclists to try it out. Our Board does not currently include anyone with specialist digital skills.
