Creating and promoting safe online spaces
This session is aimed at grassroots practitioners/facilitators who engage directly with vulnerable groups through digital methods such as running meetings, support or group work online. Delegates will explore and develop skills the following key areas:
- Benefits and risks of the online environment for individuals and groups
- An introduction to the key principles of digital safeguarding and what these mean for our roles
- Tips for planning and facilitating safe and supportive online sessions and opportunities including basic risk assessment
This session is open to any charity sector employees and volunteers across the UK. Where spaces are limited priority will be given to grant holders of our funding organisations.
About the trainer
Marie has an extensive background in rights based approaches, group facilitation and leadership spanning community arts, early education and youth development. She is the founder and Director of social enterprise Sound Ambitions CIC which promotes wellbeing through music and creative experiences for children and families across Lanarkshire. She is the Project Co-ordinator at Mind Waves, a peer-led mental health charity that supports people with lived experience of mental ill health to share their stories and opinions online. Marie’s 20 year career in the Voluntary Sector has also included roles with sector-leading organisations such as Scottish Book Trust, Scottish Youth Parliament and The Children’s Parliament.
