This is a new role focused on developing our programmes through project management, building strategic partnerships and growing our income & funding - helping Third Sector Lab deliver more impact within the third sector. You should be as comfortable writing bids as you are networking - building relationships and new partnerships.

Our programmes include The Curve digital skills programme, Digital Trustees, The Open Working Programme and our quarterly Tech for Good Scotland events. We are here to help charities get the most out of digital, data and design.

While it would be great if we can find someone passionate about tech for good - you don’t have to be an expert when it comes to digital, data and design.

Led by our Director, Ross McCulloch, you’ll be joining a small team that works alongside specialist freelancers and associates. We are trainers, consultants, digital strategists, developers and designers. We need someone who is proactive and comfortable self-managing their work.

About Third Sector Lab

For over a decade Third Sector Lab have been providing consultancy, training, strategy and programmes to help charities get the most out of digital. We have won numerous awards and were named one of The Big Issue's Changemakers of 2022.

As well as delivering services, we organise Tech for Good Scotland events, provide training via our programme The Curve, help charities find the right board members via Digital Trustees and encourage transparent communications via The Open Working Programme.

Our work is diverse and has real impact - you’ll have a key role in helping us scale it up.

Our clients have included SCVO, Relationships Scotland, The Robertson Trust, Social Investment Scotland, Leuchie, Oxfam, Nominet, The Scottish Government, NHS GGC and many more.

Priorities for this role and our ambitions for growth

  • Project managing aspects of our key programmes - for example scheduling in workshops for The Curve, helping us re-think our online training offer, connecting with potential Digital Trustees, and on-boarding people to the Open Working Programme.
  • Designing and implementing strategies to grow our annual income - enabling us to deliver more services and programmes to third sector organisations across the UK.
  • Developing new partnerships and funder relationships while managing existing ones.
  • Bid writing - developing high-quality written content for bids, proposals, and tender documents that help us win new work.
  • Research and take part in networking, speaking events and opportunities for our Director, yourself and others - helping us further build our network and profile.

Specific programmes you will be helping us grow and develop

The Curve - We want to build on the success of training over 12000 third sector professionals on digital, data and design since 2020. The Curve is our programme of live online workshops plus a learning platform. We are supported by a small number of funders and membership organisations to provide this training to their grantholders. You would focus on growing the number of funders and membership organisations we work with plus project management of The Curve. You wouldn’t be expected to deliver the training - we work with a range of associates and partners for this.

Digital Trustees - This programme is focused on getting a digital, data or design expert onto the board of every charity in the UK via our matchmaking platform and events. You would be working on building partnerships within the third sector and with corporates. We want to really grow the impact of Digital Trustees over the next few years. Our Director will provide support and leadership on this area of the work.

The Open Working Programme - We have supported hundreds of charities to transform their comms via this structured training, mentoring and peer-support programme. You would be focused on promoting our 20-person cohort 8-week programme to funders, membership bodies and medium to large third sector organisations. The delivery of the programme itself is handled by our Content and Campaigns Lead.

Our Digital Transformation, Website Design, Tech for Good Scotland events and other services - You’d also help us identify charities that could benefit from our consultancy services and website design support. We envisage this would happen naturally as you work on helping more people access our fully-funded programmes.

About you

This role requires a people-person with energy and an entrepreneurial approach. You should be as comfortable connecting with people on LinkedIn as you are at in-person events.

You will be helping us take The Curve, Digital Trustees, Open Working Programme and other programmes & services to new audiences through partnership building, development work and effective project management.

You’ll be making structured bids to win work, building relationships and finding new opportunities for Third Sector Lab.

You should be highly organised and able to work strategically. We need someone who is independent, self-driven and can work without the need for lots of supervision. You should have the ability to prioritise and set goals for yourself.

Essential skills and experience - you really need to have these ones

  • A track-record in building effective partnerships.
  • A track-record in securing new business and funding via bid-writing, winning funding, pitching for work, identifying new opportunities and other approaches.

  • Strong writing, editing and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent project management and deadline management skills.
  • An organised approach to managing sales pipelines.
  • Enthusiasm, confidence and a proactive approach to your work.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Be personable, approachable and able to work within a remote small team doing big things.

Desirable skills and experience - don’t worry if you don’t have these ones but be sure to tell us if you do

  • Proven experience working with senior level decision makers in charities, trusts, foundations, social enterprises, membership bodies and other third or public sector organisations.
  • Experience of reporting on outcomes and impact.
  • A passion for technology as a force for good. But you definitely don’t need to be a digital, data or design expert.
  • Knowledge of and connections across Scotland’s third sector and wider civil society.
  • Knowledge of and connections across Scotland’s tech sector.
  • An understanding of charity governance.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
