Robert Malcolm

Area of expertise:
Software System design and strategy. Software Development

Number of years experience:
25

Location:
Scotland (Fife)

In my professional life I manage an IT department with about 50 software engineers, where I'm not writing code but am very involved in the technical strategy and evolution, ongoing improvements and efficiencies of the systems we build and operate.
My Career spans 25 years and in that time I have built, managed and supported many different systems, often evolving from older to newer tech while keeping things running.

What I can offer
Defining a Tech strategy and path to evolve with a view on future proofing
I have good experience of how to design software systems to fit whats needed
I have good knowledge on many different Tech stacks and technologies
I have good knowledge of Cloud platforms
I have good knowledge of Database systems, storage and management
I have knowledge of AI systems, although this is rapidly moving field
I have knowledge of usage analytics (Google/Mixpanel)
I have some experience of building and managing Mobile Apps
I'm considered good at describing tech systems/requirements to non tech people

I have a lot of experience in managing IT risk and Security and working knowledge of GDPR and recently completed a course on AI and Data Ethics from Edinburgh University.

I'm very collaborative and pragmatic thinking and approach problem solving holistically focussed on the outcome to achieve, meaning that it is often a combination of tech and other factors that come together requiring a collective input and discussions.

What I'm not
I'm not a designer or Marketing person
I'm not a Sales person
I have experience of defining User experience and journeys but it's not an area of expertise
I can write code, but Its not my day job so would need more time to do these types of tasks
It would work best for me if we're able to agree time/dates over a longer period so that I can fit this into my work/life commitments.

Available for: In-person meetings, Remote meetings
